Big Models

Big Models is a Detroit based design practice run by architect Aaron Jones and myself which commissions misfit art, design, and architecture projects and translates them into experimental print output. Until October of 2020 it was an LA based gallery we ran remotely until we had to close due to the stress of traveling during the COVID-19 pandemic. We consider print ephemera to be a progressive medium and look to formats which are widely accessible in order to promote participation with the work. These formats exist somewhere between "disposable stuff" and "precious fine art" and result in engagement which is not primarily market driven. Zines are our most typical format and serve to document projects, gather critical writing, and deposit weird or misfit work. We also operate as a design firm that takes on long term projects that hybridizes the disciplines of graphic design and architecture to make projects that exist on scales not typical for either graphic design or architecture.
